Legacy
Linear-X poked its head into existence way back in 1988 when its creator, only 14 yrs old at the time, began an animated series titled - 'Death's Edge' which saw immediate circulation and fame in his local area of rural Alberta. Completely self-funded and self-distributed, his works of animation expanded to other works such as stop-animation using clay figures and other since long-lost projects. This collective set of works were created under his small venture titled - 'Linear-X Pictures'. The original 'Death's Edge' series has since been digitized into a 6-minute short film complete with sound effects and other visually enhancing effects. It has yet to be released.
By the mid-90's, its creator had become a member of FAVA - the Film and Video Arts Society based in Edmonton where several projects were created, again under Linear-X Pictures, that competed with other members' projects at the time. One such project he created was a 5-minute short filmed with a Super 8 titled - 'Guato & Dancing Horse'. It won third place and strong applause during a screening party in 1995. It was the final project created with FAVA.
By 1994, Linear-X Publishing took form with the signing of then-unknown independent writer Mason Maestro, by releasing a small collection of lyretry (a portmanteau of Lyric and poetry) titled 'Single File Line'. In 2000, Mason Maestro released an essay on the Crusades along with a new collection of lyretry titled 'Of Cabbage and Kings'. By this point it became clear that, under the recommendation of Linear-X, Mason Maestro expand Single File Line with an article to accompany the original lyretry as in the conceptual style that 'Cabbage' had formed, to create what would eventually become the set formula for this style of theme-based compositions.
In 2002 while traveling extensively through Europe, Mason Maestro had reportedly been writing a new novelty about a utopian society and reaffirmed this new style. The Conceptual Novelty Collection series was born, and Mason Maestro was well on his way to create the long-living series while releasing novelties every year since 2002.
The novelties were still in PDF form, being distributed mainly in digital format only. However in 2012, Linear-X Media finally embarked on re-issuing the entire series for book print. This remastering of the entire catalogue was an exhausting two and a half year project. But by 2014 work was complete on time to see Mason Maestro's 14th novelty - 'Quagmire Quarry' get released. Linear-X Media was now in the proper publishing business while designing, formatting, laying out, assigning ISBN barcodes and having every book made available through their new partnership with Amazon.com along with their other domains around the world.
Although Mason Maestro continues to be Linear-X's flagship writer, by 2006 it was no longer exclusive to one author. Linear-X signed Canadian writer Eli P. Pomerleau for a three-book deal beginning with his 2006 book - An English Teacher's Guide to The Great Cities of the World. The second edition was released in 2007. That same year he published his final book - The Orange Chronicles. It took form of a Conceptual Novelty as a nod to the Mason Maestro series.
Today with more than two-dozen works published under the Linear-X Media brand, we now serve writers from around the globe to bring their works to light.
